Lower Dam Walk

Lower Dam Walk is a footpath next to the sealed private road used by regional park and water supply vehicles.

Lower Dam Walk is a 3.2km / one hour walk from the Reservoir Road to the Lower Dam and wetlands return. The walk can be extended by crossing over the swing bridge and then heading back to the car park via Gums Loop meadow. Without the extension, it’s a very easy walk and is suitable for bikes and wheelchairs. Dogs must be leashed due to the existence of kiwi and other wildlife.

The walk follows Reservoir Road and has a number of detours to places like Ultimate Pool and the historic Mackay Cottage site. Continuing on the path and road eventually leads to the water museum and a beautiful wetlands area. Another attraction is the old dam and the spillway where the Wainuiomata River flows over. There are a number of artifacts and sign posts associated with the old dam dotted around the site.
