The Wainuiomata Water Museum is located in an original home in the Wainuiomata Water Collection Area.
The museum while small, boasts a diverse collection of visuals and historical artifacts associated with the water collection areas of Wainuiomata and Orongorongo. It is also located near the lower dam that you can walk along and view the spillway. A scenic wetlands is located behind the dam.
To get here, you can walk or bike the Lower Dam Walk. You can park at either Reservoir Road car park or Hine Road car park if you want to add on Hine Road Recreation Area and Top Pool. The walk from the Reservoir Road gate is an easy flat path that takes about one hour return. There are other options on the walk to see historic sites and artefacts and there are options for other walking tracks and sites onroute.
