Wainuiomata was the location for huge logging operations conducted by both the Sinclair and Prouse families. The latter family focussed on clearing the forests around the Coast Road  area while the Sinclair’s focussed on Hine Road area, Moores Valley, and Sinclair Valley / Reservoir Valley. The wood was used for houses in Wellington.
