Original homes in Wainuiomata date as far back as far as 1855. Most are gone today, but some still remain.
After the deforestation of Wainuiomata in the Homedale and Coast Road areas, the land was transformed into farmland, with several homesteads being constructed. Although most of these homes have vanished over the years, a few still stand. These houses, built and occupied by early settlers, were handed down through different generations, each carrying its own unique history.
