Postcards featuring this picturesque view of the spillway date back to 1905. They were widely circulated, along with images of other scenic spots in the Wainuiomata Waterworks like the lake. The area was particularly popular for picnics, especially among Wellington City Council staff, despite being designated as a restricted area. They freely roamed the vicinity during this period.
