Looking towards the west along Moore’s Valley Road (in the foreground) and the Wainuiomata River, where the Main Road crosses from the left to the right. Adjacent to the bridge over the river lies Wainuiomata Primary School. The Village is non-existent.

The area seems to have undergone recent logging, likely conducted by the Sinclair family. They logged Moores Valley, Reservoir Valley, and the Hine Road vicinity. Their timber mill was on Moores Valley Road, but at the junction of Whitcher Grove which is outside of this photo. Richard Prouse and his family logged the Coast Road area which is visible in the photo towards the left and extending back to the hills.

The property and house in the bottom-left corner is the McIlvride family home and farm. In the background sits the Dick family’s farmhouse, with another building they owned visible in the centre of the image, near where the old Shady Dell dairy on Moores Valley Road is located.
