St Albans House, located on Coast Road in Wainuiomata, was built in the late 1920s for Maurice James Burdan (1883–1961). The Burdan brothers owned land stretching all the way to Eastbourne, including what is now the Remutaka Forest Park, which they later gifted to the government. A house similar in design stands beyond Burdan’s Gate in Eastbourne and was owned by Maurice’s brother. Each year, Maurice generously allowed the St Augustine’s Scout Group from Petone to use his Wainuiomata property for their annual camp.
