Photo of the Wainuiomata River, Main Street Bridge, and Wainuiomata Primary School, circa 1920.
Looking at the Wainuiomata River from the vicinity of today’s Rotary Park. You can see the second classroom of Wainuiomata Primary School, constructed in 1908. This view captures the classroom prior to its extension in 1938, now serving as the Wainuiomata Museum’s current building. Approximately a decade earlier, the Main Road Bridge in view was erected. It replaced a previous wooden bridge. Initially, this concrete bridge featured only a single lane, but today’s concrete bridge has two lanes.
