The Wainuiomata Stream passes beneath Moores Valley Road via a culvert.
The Wainuiomata Stream originates in upper Moores Valley, passes through farmland, and eventually flows into the Wainuiomata River. Just before joining the river, it passes beneath Moores Valley Road via a culvert. The current culvert was constructed in 2007, replacing at least one earlier culvert. A historic photograph from 1888 shows a bridge at the site, with the Sinclair Sawmill Hut visible in the background.
This area holds historical significance as the site of sawmills that were part of the Sinclair family’s logging enterprise. As one of Wainuiomata’s pioneering families, the Sinclairs played a vital role in the early development of the region. Their efforts included the establishment of sawmills, such as those near the Wainuiomata Stream culvert, which were central to the local logging industry in the 19th century.
