This 1916 Wainuiomata map forms part of a broader Wellington District survey map. It includes a number of early Māori place names and the locations of several pā or traditional Māori settlements. Notably, it even records a lake once located in the lower Wainuiomata River area. The Remutaka Range is correctly spelt on the map, a name that was officially altered tp “Rimutaka” and changed back to the correct spelling in 2017.
