SOLOMON’S KNOB DAM
Reservoir Nearly Ready for Filling
The construction of Solomon’s Knob dam at Wainui-o-mata is nearing completion and will be handed over to the council by the contractors in the course of a week or two. The last of the concreting is being completed, and the floor of the reservoir is being cleared of vegetation.
The reservoir will be filled gradually so that the face wall is not subjected to too severe a strain at the outset. The wall has been built a foot higher than was initially intended, which will increase the reservoir’s capacity by nearly ten million gallons. The total holding capacity is approximately 110,000,000 gallons.
