Evening Post 25 Feb 1887

The Mayor last night, in referring to an article in yesterday evening’s Post, stated that whoever informed our representative that the 25-feet crack in the water-race at Wainui- o-mata was known to the Corporation six weeks ago, had misled him.

Notice is given by the Town Clerk that in order to effect certain repairs to the Wainui Waterworks, the supply will be cut off from noon to-morrow until 8 a.m. on Monday next. The Karori supply will be turned on but householders on the higher levels of the city are recommended to store water this evening, so as to avoid inconvenience.

Councillor Petherick intended to move last evening that the City Council should obtain prices from Messrs. E. W. Mills and Messrs. Dawson & Co., the Corporation contractors, for indenting the large waterpipes required for increasing the output from the Polhill Gully reservoir. When the resolution was about to be moved, the Mayor explained that waterpipes wero not included in the list of material which must be ordered through the two firms in question, and on the motion of Councillor Petherick, seconded by Councill Coombe, it was resolved to at once call for tenders for supplying the pipes required.

Councillor Coombe suggested that the Council should obtain an estimate from the Engineer of the cost of laying 36in pipes from the Wainui dam to the well, so as to replace the present concrete race. The suggestion was not acted upon.
