Sir — Why does the Mayor attempt to deceive the citizens by stating to your reporter to-day that a large quantity of pipes have been ordered for the Wainui service, and it is hoped when these are brought into use a more effective supply will be provided?
I understand the pipes ordered are simply to replace the rotten wooden race that conveys the water from the dam to the well from which the present pipes are filled. While this is a very desirable work and may prevent a disaster through the collapse of the race, I fail to see how it is going to give the relief which experience has so dearly taught us is so urgently required.
