Mitre 10’s plans to relocate into the former The Warehouse building are progressing well, with nine job vacancies currently advertised. The family-owned business, which also operates Mitre 10 Mega stores in Petone, Upper Hutt, and Porirua, acquired Hammer Hardware on The Strand.
Hammer Hardware was originally Wainuiomata Hardware, it rebranded as Mitre 10 in 1983 and relocated to The Strand in 1988. About 12 years ago, it transitioned to Hammer Hardware.
The former Warehouse buildings’ revamp is transforming by the day. Unfortunately, the site has faced several break-ins, with power tools and other items stolen. The Warehouse was initially closed on 14 November 2016 due to the 7.8 Kaikoura earthquake, although it had already been slated for closure in 2017 when the lease was set to expire.
