TENDERS

Six tenders were received for the construction of a tramway at Wainuiomata, that of Messrs G. H. Bayliss and Co., as the lowest, being accepted.

PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE

Clauses 1 and 3 of the report of the Public Works Committee (already published) were referred back for reconsideration. Clause 2 was to… The Council here adjourned for an hour to allow the Wainuiomata Waterworks and Finance Committees to bring up their reports, and resumed at 10.15.

WATERWORKS COMMITTEE

The committee brought up a report, recommending the purchase of certain land within the Wainuiomata watershed from Messrs Johnston and Russell at 20s per acre, the purchase money to be paid ten years hence, and meantime to bear interest at the rate of 6 percent per annum. The report was adopted without discussion.

FINANCE COMMITTEE

The Finance Committee recommended that the £7009 advanced to the Te Aro reclamation account be retransferred to the general account not later than the 31st instant; that two-fifths of the City Surveyor’s Department costs for the past three years be charged to the Wainuiomata waterworks account; that Mr S. Levy be employed for one week to collect certain outstanding accounts, and that a cheque be drawn for £7099 2s 9d to cover interest and exchange on the waterworks account. The report was agreed to.

ACCOUNTS

Accounts amounting to £1156 11s 6d were passed for payment. The council rose at 10.30 a.m.
