Mr Oakes, the contractor for the Wainuiomata waterworks, has invited the officers of the Japanese man-of-war Riujio to pay a visit of inspection. He has also extended a similar invitation to the City Councillors and several other citizens.
Captain Ito and fifteen officers of the ship have accepted the invitation, and the party altogether will comprise some fifty or sixty persons. Some attendees will travel in carriages, departing from the Council Chambers at 9:30 this morning, while others will take the 10:15 train.
The tunnel at the waterworks will be illuminated for the occasion.
