HOSPITAL BOARD
MONTHLY MEETING.
The Wellington Hospital and Charitable Aid Board met yesterday, the Rev. W. A. Evans presiding. There were present:—Dr. Platts-Mills, Mrs. D. McLaren, Miss E. Richmond, Rev. J. K. Elliott, Rev. H. Van Staveren, Dr. Mackenzie, Messrs. H. Baldwin, D. Campbell, F. Castle, H. Freeman, W. Galloway, B. R. Gardener, F. T. Moore, J. W. McEwan, O. Nash, G. J. Petherick, D. Robertson, and J. Smith.
The Hospital Committee recommended:
That a comprehensive report dealing with the commercial side of the working of the hospital in all its branches be furnished by the acting-medical superintendent, secretary, and house steward.
That an extension of three months be granted Messrs. McLean and Gray for completing the out-patients and pathological block.
That the medical officer at Otaki should furnish the committee with a monthly report on the inmates of the sanatorium.
The report was adopted. The Charitable Aid Committee reported that steps had again been taken to ascertain the position of the board in regard to relief afforded to indigent Maoris. No definite conclusion had yet been reached.
On the recommendation of the Public Health Committee, it was decided:—That, in reference to the proposed demolition of the insanitary buildings at Wainui-o-mata, where eight cases of diphtheria were reported last year, the Department of Public Health be urged to carry out this urgent and necessary work so as to prevent the possibility of any disease being disseminated throughout the district, and that no milking of cows for making of butter, cheese, or sale of milk be allowed unless the buildings as agreed upon be demolished.
