Catchpool Valley is the primary location to access the Remutaka Forest Park and the numerous walks located there. The valley has car parking, campgrounds, toilets & showers, gas barbecues, and picnic areas. Besides many walks beginning and ending here, there are also opportunities for swimming in Catchpool Stream.

The valley is a good way to immerse oneself in the Podocarp rainforest found in the Remutaka Forest Park. The forest park includes large trees like: kahikatea, rimu, tōtara, kahikatea, miro, and mataī. Other large trees include: becches, rātā, rewarewa, pukatea. The valley is populated with various small trees and plants, such as fern trees, ground ferns, nīkau palms, and mosses. Additionally, introduced trees, particularly pines and gorse, have taken root in the area. Efforts are underway to eliminate these introduced species and return the valley to its original native flora.
