Cliff Pool, also known as Black Pool, is located at Richard Prouse Park, where the Wainuiomata River splits the park and meets a steep bank, forming a sharp 90-degree turn. The pool appears dark due to the cliff’s shadow, which blocks sunlight for most of the day, giving it the alternative name: Black Pool. Caution is advised when swimming near the cliff face, as cliffs are inherently unstable.
