This newly discovered drainage pipe, dating back to around 1901, was built to divert a creek through an earth bridge that conceals the old raceway (pipeline). Without the drainage pipe, the earth bridge would act like a dam by causing water to accumulate and exert unnecessary pressure on the earth bridge wall. The bridge was once part of Maintenance Road, that provided passage for work vehicles to maintain the raceway infrastructure. While the road itself remains to this day, this end section of road was abandoned decades ago and has since been reclaimed by the bush.
