The New Zealand Railways Road Services introduced the first bus service to the area in 1941. The model shown, a Bedford SB3, was commonly used on Wainuiomata routes in the 1960s and 70s. One example, bus number 3899, operated for several years on services linking Woburn and Wainuiomata.
