Riverlea (Glenhill) Wainuiomata in the 1940s - Photo ex Mr Jenkins - WHMS: B007

Glenhill was the home of John Sinclair, whose wider family were among the pioneering settlers of Wainuiomata and established the original homestead and property. In 1883, following a change in ownership after the Sinclair family left the area, the property was renamed Riverlea. During the Riverlea period, the surrounding land was farmed as Jenkins’ Farm, a name used locally for several years. In the 1940s, the property was leased to Cephas John Cullen, after which it became widely known as Cullen’s Farm.

The Sinclair family, who originally owned much of the surrounding land, also established and owned several other homes in the area.
