The name “Secret Pool” stems from its past as a restricted area, where swimming discreetly was necessary. It was and still is a beloved swimming spot for families with younger children.
Secret Pool (also known as Indian Pool) is a swimming hole in the Wainuiomata River. It is the next swimming area downstream from Top Pool. The pool is ideal for families with kids, being shallow enough to mitigate the risks associated with deeper pools. While it is deep in some sections, these sections are not as large as some of the more popular pools in Wainuiomata River.
In the 1960s and 70s, Hine Road Recreation Area had a large area of Blackberry bushes growing at its northern end. But the pool was popular enough for a track to form through these bushes. The pool is not be confused with nearby Cullens Bridge Pool which is further downstream.
