Two weirs, one located in the Wainuiomata River and the other in George Creek, were built to replace Morton Dam in Wainuiomata. The image depicts the smaller weir in George Creek. The combined water supply from these weirs matches the output of Morton Dam during its operational period. Although weirs ensure a continuous flow of water similar to dams, the latter offer the added benefit of water storage.
