The Village in c1943

The Village in 1943 - Wainuiomata Historic Museum Society

Looking at The Village in the year 1943. The building behind the tree is the general store owned by Claude Williams & his wife. This building was once part of the McIlvride family home and store, but it was moved to this location because of housing development on the new Moores Valley Road in 1939. This new location had a bus last stop, a petrol pump, post office, and an office for Wainuiomata Transport & the Shingle Co. The little creamery building behind the truck in the photo was the first building in the intersection area where Wonderland Records is now.

You can also see new houses on Moores Valley Road and Main Road which was called Wainuiomata Road at that time. In the background you can see the school building where Wainuiomata Primary School is located today.
