Wainuiomata Stream: A Meandering Tributary Through Farmland in Moores Valley
Wainuiomata Stream, also known as Wainuiomata-iti Stream and once labeled as the Little Wainuiomata River on old maps, originates from a steep hill between Naenae and The Blue Mountains. It flows down toward Brookfield from upper Moores Valley before emptying into the Wainuiomata River on the eastern side of Richard Prouse Park. Just before joining the Wainuiomata River, the stream passes under Moores Valley Road through a culvert.
Its Māori name, Wainuiomata-iti Stream, includes the word “iti,” meaning “small,” emphasizing its smaller size compared to the main Wainuiomata River.
