From Forest Trails to Wild Coastlines
Wainuiomata.Net provides easy access to the spectacular wilderness areas of Wainuiomata. This includes two major reserves featuring ancient podocarp forests and an extensive network of walking tracks, ranging from gentle family friendly strolls to more challenging treks. For those seeking a different experience, there is also the option to explore the rugged southern coastline with wildlife and sweeping views toward the South Island.
Direct Access to Wellington’s Hidden Wilderness
While Wainuiomata is well known to Wellington locals for its natural beauty, it remains largely undiscovered by international visitors due to limited and complex access. Wainuiomata.Net removes this barrier by offering comfortable and convenient transport from anywhere in Wellington city, Porirua, or the Hutt Valley, taking you directly to the dramatic landscapes of Remutaka Forest Park, Wainuiomata Regional Park, or the southern coastline / Turakirae Head Scientific Reserve.
Cost
The cost for transport to any or all three locations (return) is NZ$380 per vehicle for the day, which includes a local knowledgeable driver. The vehicle seats up to four passengers (three adult passengers comfortably) and can be booked by any single group of one to four people.

Locations
Remutaka Forest Park is one of Wellington’s most diverse natural areas, spanning from Wainuiomata to the south coast. It features native forest, valleys, rivers, and ridgelines, with walks from easy to challenging. The Orongorongo Valley is a highlight, with riverside tracks, clearings, and historic huts.
This scenic park blends native bush with a rich history, supplying Wellington’s drinking water since the 1880s. Remnants of the original waterworks remain among native and exotic forest. Several walking tracks start here, ranging from one to four hours, with the famous eight hour Whakanui Track also nearby.
The Wainuiomata South Coast, including the Turakirae Head Scientific Reserve, is one of the Wellington region’s most dramatic and unspoilt coastlines. Framed by the Remutaka Range and Cook Strait, it features powerful surf, wide shingle beaches, striking geology, views to the South Island, and a thriving fur seal colony.
