Two videos taken inside the Orongorongo Tunnel. Includes both directions.
Constructed in the 1920s, the Orongorongo Tunnel remains in active use today as part of Wellington’s water supply system. Its primary purpose is to divert water from the headwaters of the Orongorongo River into the Wainuiomata catchment, where it is collected, treated, and distributed to the Wellington region. Built between 1921 and 1926, the tunnel stretches approximately 3.2 kilometres (10,494 feet) through rugged terrain and was a major engineering feat of its time.
