Lower Dam Walk

Lower Dam Walk is a path next to the sealed private road used by regional park & water supply vehicles.

The Lower Dam Walk is a 3.2 km (around one hour) round trip, starting from Reservoir Road and leading to Lower Dam and a wetlands. It’s a very easy walk making it ideal for cyclists and wheelchair users. Dogs must be kept on a leash due to the presence of kiwi and other wildlife.

The walk closely follows Reservoir Road, offering detours to points of interest such as Ultimate Pool and the historic Mackay Cottage site. Continuing along the road brings you to the water museum and a scenic wetlands area. Visitors can also explore the old dam, spillway, and several historic artefacts and signs that highlight the site’s heritage.

The walk can be extended by crossing a large swing bridge and returning to the car park via Gums Loop meadow. This extension creates a loop option called Gums Loop Walk.
