The Nga Taonga Nature Walk is a short but richly rewarding track located near the entrance to Remutaka Forest Park south of Wainuiomata. Its name translates to “The Treasures of the Forest,” and the walk lives up to that promise, offering a gentle introduction to the lush native bush within the park. The track begins near the Catchpool car park and follows the course of Grace’s Stream alongside a forested hillside.

Designed as an educational loop, the walk features a series of interpretation panels that highlight the traditional Māori uses of native plants and trees, including species like kawakawa, rimu, and ponga. These panels add a deeper dimension to the walk, connecting visitors not only to the landscape but also to its cultural significance.

The track itself is well-formed, and mostly flat, making it ideal for families with young children or those wanting a peaceful, low-effort stroll. This there and back walk takes around 30 (one way) to complete.
