This popular track takes you through native bush to the Ōrongorongo River & to refreshing swimming spots.
The Ōrongorongo Track is a popular track and is suitable for families. Stretching 10km, this moderately challenging track typically takes around 2 hours and 45 minutes to traverse one-way. The sole part of the track featuring an incline is the final descent, lasting about 10 minutes until you reach the Ōrongorongo River.
Meandering through mixed podocarp and broadleaf forest surrounding the Ōrongorongo River, the track ascends gradually, offering stunning scenery. Upon reaching the end, you can rejuvenate in the inviting swimming holes at Tūrere Stream. You can return the way you came or make it a more challenging hike by returning via the Cattle Ridge Track and Butcher Track.
Access to the Ōrongorongo Track is from Catchpool Valley, 10km south on Coast Road.
