Tana Umaga Track is a challenging 2.4m walk that provides pleasant views of Lower Dam and the upper Wainuiomata River valley. The track connects with Sledge Track and Gums Loop, allowing you to combine them for a loop walk.

Established in the 1970s, this track was created as a geological survey route to examine rock formations for a proposed, but ultimately rejected, dam project on the Wainuiomata River.

The name Tana Umaga refers to a famous All Blacks rugby player who was captain of New Zealand from 2004 to 2005. Tana Umaga hails from Wainuiomata.
