Wainuiomata: Birds
Wainuiomata and surrounds is home to many native bird species. This is due to the large tracts of podocarp and beech forests that exist here. Bird species here include: kiwi, tui, bellbird, grey warbler, whitehead, tomtit, kererū, silvereye, fantail, morepork, falcon, rifleman, and kakariki.
Furthermore, the Wainuiomata River and the rugged southern coastline provide perfect habitats for ducks, oystercatchers, gulls, cormorants, and pipits.
