Edgar Hine (1870–1949) emigrated from Hemyock, Devon, England, to New Zealand in 1879 and later became a farmer in New Plymouth. Despite living in Taranaki, he significantly contributed to Wainuiomata’s development, resulting in Hine Road being named in his honour.
Edgar Hine (1870–1949) was born in Hemyock, Devon, England, and emigrated to New Zealand with his family in 1879. He married Mary Ann Bain on June 27, 1900, in Toko, Taranaki, and lived in New Plymouth as a farmer in 1928.
Despite residing in Taranaki, Edgar had a strong connection with Wainuiomata, being a bondholder in the Wainuiomata Development Company as of May 27, 1927. He also held shares in the Homedale Investment Company Ltd from 1941 to 1945, which was established to fund the urban development of the Village. Hine Road, a main street in Homedale, was named in his honor.
