This old farm building at 864 Coast Road now features artwork with the words “Wainui Coast”, a tribute to the coastline about 10 kilometres further along the road.
Historically, it is one of the last surviving milking sheds in Wainuiomata, and the second to be built on Jackson’s Farm. It was once fitted with a stainless-steel vat.
There were once dozens of similar sheds scattered through the valleys from the late 1800s, when small herds supplied milk in cans. Initially used for personal needs, butter, and cheese, the milk was later sold in the Wellington region until a creamery opened in the village on the site of today’s record shop.
