Homedale Road takes its name from the oldest neighborhood in Wainuiomata.
History & Naming
Homedale is the oldest part of Wainuiomata, so naming a road after the suburb likely indicated its importance. The road provides entrances to Wainuiomata Primary School, which runs along half the street. The school has a lot of history being established way back in 1857, with the street being opened in 1957, a century later. The name “Homedale” suggests a combination of “home” and “dale” (meaning valley), perhaps reflecting the suburban growth and the valley landscape of Wainuiomata.
