Good navvies, used to concrete work, are said to be difficult to obtain just now. Such, at all events, is the testimony of the contractors for the erection of the dam at Solomon’s Knob, Wainuiomata, for the Wellington City Council. Some of the workers who have gone out to the job have not come up to good shovelling pitch, and many first-class workers have tired of lives lived “far from the madding throng,” and, in consequence, they have returned to localities nearer the living pictures and the fluid that cheers.
Now that the settled summer weather is imminent, the contractors are desirous of pushing on with the work at an accelerated pace, and an advertisement for pick and shovel men has been forwarded to The Post.
