The Morepork is a small owl native to New Zealand and parts of Australia. It gets its name from the sound of its call, which sounds like “more-pork.” In Māori, it is called ruru. These owls are primarily nocturnal hunters, feeding on insects and small mammals. They have striking yellow eyes and mottled brown plumage that helps them blend into the forest.
