Scout Hut, also known as Pearson Hut was erected to accommodate survey workers on the Orongorongo Valley Water Catchment. It was later used by the Scouts. The Pollard family lived here in the 1940s.
Tom Vivian Pearson (1914–2003) and later his son John Devonald Pearson (1944–present) were the lessees of a hut along Reservoir Road, situated at the northern end of what is now the Gums Loop Track.
This area, known as The Terrace, is elevated above the riverbank. The hut stood from 1921 until 1995 when it succumbed to a fire. Nearby, there was another hut known as Mackay Cottage.
