Old bottles are a common discovery on adventure walks and bush bashes throughout Wainuiomata.
Wainuiomata has a long history of forestry, farming and water management, stretching from the mid-nineteenth century to the present day. Many former water-supply projects and associated structures have since been abandoned and are now concealed by regenerating bush. Over the decades, workers left behind a variety of everyday objects, including bottles that were discarded near work sites, camps and access routes. As a result, old bottles are still commonly found away from established tracks, with many remaining intact and in remarkably good condition.
