Moness Woolshed and associated outbuildings
Moness Woolshed formed part of Hugh Sinclair’s former property, known as “Moness”. The site is now occupied by Richard Prouse Park, with no visible remains of the woolshed or any of the other buildings that once stood there. Its presence provides evidence that sheep farming was once carried out in this part of Wainuiomata, an area now dominated by suburban housing and recreational facilities.
The original Moness homestead was reportedly washed away by a flood of the Wainuiomata River in the 1850s and was probably located somewhere near the woolshed, or possibly close to the smaller shed visible nearby. A replacement house was later built on higher ground, further back from the river and outside the area shown in this photograph.
