THE WAINUI-O-MATA GOLD DISCOVERY.

Evening Post, Volume XVII, Issue 377, 25 March 1879, Page 2

The alleged gold discovery in the Wainui-o-mata Valley came before the Hutt County Council this afternoon, when a letter was read from Mr. Moore, the prospector, stating that he could point out payable reefs, but asking, as a condition, that the gold duty for fifteen years should be given to him. The Council agreed to comply with this condition, so far as their present term of office was concerned, but declined to pledge their  successors.
