AMERICAN RESCUERS
BUSH SHOOTING ACCIDENT
(P.A.)
WELLINGTON, Monday
The member of a shooting party in the bush at the back of Wainui-o-Mata who was accidentally shot yesterday was Mr. Walter Kaspar. He was not brought out of the bush until the early hours of this morning.
A party of United States marines took a heavy six-wheeled truck five miles up the bed of a creek and brought Mr. Kaspar to a waiting Air Force ambulance.
The rescue party, which left Lower Hutt at 7 p.m. yesterday, included a doctor from the Air Force, United States marines, and members of the Tararua Tramping Club.
The party reached its destination, a hut five miles in from the Wainui Road, about midnight. Mr. Kaspar was brought to Lower Hutt about 3 a.m. and thence to the Wellington Hospital.
