Photo taken on the East Whakanui Track, an unofficial route in Remutaka Forest Park. The track follows a bait line that connects the Old Whakanui Track with the main Whakanui Track, allowing the three routes to be combined into a loop walk of about five hours.
By also including the Sunny Grove Track, the walk can start and finish at the Hine Road Recreation Area car park. However, it should be noted that, apart from the main Whakanui Track, these routes are not signposted in the usual sense. They are marked mainly by small tags that can be difficult to spot, making it easy to lose the route or wander off track.
